This is a working supervisor position overseeing the Building Performance Services - Building Systems Efficiency Team consisting of Energy efficiency / operational optimization engineering, existing building commissioning and energy / control systems project management. The position will focus on energy efficiency of building systems, ensuring the annual Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) list is created, accurate, relevant and prioritized for optimum results. In doing so, partnerships with academic units, student groups, consultants and various utility teams will be required in order maximize effectiveness of MSU resources in our fulfillment of meeting our campus energy efficiency goals.
The technical focus of the position is responsible for estimating, planning, designing, directing, inspecting, and analyzing the installation, construction, alteration, operation, and repair of highly complex mechanical, structural, electrical, environmental, electronic, and computer‑based systems across new and existing campus facilities. The role provides conceptual planning and develops cost estimates for large scale, campus wide projects; produces design plans and specifications; and actively manages a substantial portfolio of ongoing projects.
Additional responsibilities include addressing customer concerns related to construction costs, serving as a public facing liaison with MSU stakeholders, reviewing and approving project payment applications, and authorizing payments. The role prepares detailed technical reports and cost studies; interviews, evaluates, schedules, and recommends employees; assigns internal skilled trades personnel to specialized projects; and negotiates with external contractors as needed. It also involves screening new suppliers, coordinating required State inspections, and maintaining internal system records.
